Nancy Kallenbach-Han

Nancy K. Han qualified in 1995 and won a silver medal at Intergroom with a Kerry Blue Terrier when she competed for the U.S. team.

She began grooming when she was sixteen years old, starting with her Poodle, Philip.  For years, Nancy used Phillip to test everything she learned from books as she studied on her own.  Nancy later attended Midwest Grooming School in Chicago, then moved to California in 1982 where she opened Dog’s Best Friend & The Cat’s Meow.

With a growing business, Nancy continued her studies wherever possible and soon became a Certified Master Groomer.  In the certification exam, groomers are graded on their work – and Nancy achieved the highest possible score in each of the four categories.  To earn her Companion Animal Hygienist certification, she studied coat care, conditioning, bathing and drying, and the finishing touches appropriate to all breeds of  dogs and cats. Nancy’s hunger for knowledge is still evident today.

Nancy believes that in addition to applying one’s skills artistically, being a good groomer requires business acumen,  an understanding of animal and people psychology, and expertise in pet health and nutrition. In working with new groomers and peers, Nancy stresses the importance of continuing education to enhance their skills and their professional image.  She encourages her staff to pursue these certifications and gives them every opportunity to participate in educational programs.
